(Not usable on player characters or difficult targets.)

Area Guide to the Dark Brotherhood:

Dark Brotherhood Map

1. Anvil – The port city of Anvil serves as the gateway to the Gold Coast. Self-proclaimed Provincial Governor Fortunata ap Dugal controls this thriving cosmopolitan city with the help of the Red Sails pirates and a fleet of privateer vessels that makes her the primary power in the region. The city features the historic Anvil Castle, the Great Chapel of Dibella, the Anvil Lighthouse, and a bustling port and marketplace that can be as dangerous as they are vibrant. No visit to the Gold Coast is complete without taking some time to explore the streets and shops of Anvil. Just keep a hand on your gold pouch and watch your back!

2. Kvatch – The second major settlement of the Gold Coast, Kvatch tends to be more conservative and less frantic than the port city of Anvil. Famous as the one-time home of Varen Aquilarios, Kvatch has a reputation for pious, industrious, and proud citizens, though many outsiders consider them to be sanctimonious. The former Emperor’s nephew, Count Carolus, rules the city from CastleKvatch, walking a fine line between Fortunata’s ambitions and Primate Artorius’s religious dictates. The city boasts two impressive landmarks—the Cathedral of Akatosh and the Kvatch Arena, where the otherwise sedate citizenship goes wild for blood and battle.

3. Hroda Cave – Just north of Anvil and off the Gold Road, Hrota Cave has a reputation as a dangerous and mysterious cavern beneath the hills overlooking the port city. Rumors abound of all manner of creatures and criminals that supposedly inhabit the series of natural chambers carved out of the rock and stone. Whatever the truth concerning the things that haunt Hrota Cave, most locals give the region around the location a wide berth. Recent reports indicate that the famed vampire hunter Mel Adrys has been seen exploring the area, but these might just be the exaggerated talk that commonly fills the drinking halls of Anvil.

4. Garlas Agea – Great stone arches and a huge statue mark the entrance to the Ayleid ruin known as Garlas Agea, which means “Cavern of Secrets” in the ancient tongue. Some secrets, however, are best left forgotten. The ancient halls of Garlas Agea have long attracted explorers, scholars, and criminals seeking either treasure or a hiding place, or both. Activity in the Colovian wilderness suggests that someone or something has taken up residence in the ruins, but no one has been brave enough to investigate the area to identify the inhabitants—or, at least, no one has survived to bring back a report.

5. Enclave of the Houseglass – The Order of the Hour, the warrior-priests charged with protecting the Cathedral of Akatosh in Kvatch, have a long and honored history in the Gold Coast. Many locations south of Varen’s Wall have a connection to the Order, from Knightsgrave in the west to the Tower of Judgment in Kvatch. One site, sealed since the defeat of the Orc marauder, Baz Swordbreaker, in 2E 481, has shown signs of bustle and activity in recent weeks. The old fort known as the Enclave of the Hourglass served as the Order’s headquarters in year’s past. Now, a constant stream of supplies and the establishment of powerful siege weapons in the Enclave’s courtyard, suggest that the Order of the Hour has reopened the fort and begun preparations to face a threat that no one else has yet detected.

Dark Brotherhood Green Venom Tongue

Green-Venom-Tongue, an Argonian from Black Marsh, has served the Night Mother and our Dread Father practically since he emerged from his egg. As a ruthless and accomplished killer, Brother Venom takes on many of the choice assignments from the Sanctuary’s matron and the resident keeper of contracts. I have even utilized his services a number of times for clients who performed the Black Sacrament. His technique and use of the Blade of Woe does the Brotherhood proud. I have no doubt that he will play an important role as events related to Anvil and Kvatch unfold.

All that being said, Green-Venom-Tongue elicits a number of concerns that you need to be aware of so that anything that occurs later doesn’t surprise you. The Gold Coast Sanctuary was not Brother Venom’s first home within the Brotherhood. We both know what happened and how Brother Venom was exonerated, but a few doubts and questions still linger regarding that time. He also owes as much allegiance to us as he does to Black Marsh and he often returns there to fulfill his duties as a Shadowscale. This is as it should be, though it means that Brother Venom may not be available to us when we want to utilize his talents. Beyond that, Brother Venom has a few peculiarities that mark him as strange among his more grounded Brethren.

First, Brother Venom remains distant and cut off from the rest of his Brethren. While I am sure this relates to events surrounding his former Sanctuary, it nevertheless serves to make his Brothers and Sisters uncomfortable in his presence. Second, he has an overly curious mind. In fact, I would go so far as to say that his persistent attention and endless stream of questions come off as quite unsettling. He makes his fellow assassins nervous. Third, he carries one or more journals with him wherever he goes, and he constantly jots down notes and makes meticulous records of everything that he observes. He never allows anyone to see what he’s written, and he guards his journals with an almost jealous zeal. I would venture to guess that Green-Venom-Tongue isn’t completely sane. Then again, who among the Brotherhood truly is?

Despite his distinctive oddities, Green-Venom-Tongue represents an important asset in the Dark Brotherhood’s arsenal of weapons. As sharp as the keenest blade and as dangerous as a sudden storm, Brother Venom has risen to the top of my short list of assassins that will help shape and ensure the future of the Gold Coast Sanctuary. I am heading to the area now to supervise events personally—and to check on a potential recruit who may be able to help us as well.

Meet Green-Venom-Tongue yourself in the Dark Brotherhood DLC game pack for ESO, coming to PC/Mac on 5.31, and to Xbox One and PlayStation®4 on 6.14.
